WHAT SHOULD DOGS EAT FOR A HEALTHY, BEAUTIFUL COAT?
For every dog, its coat isn’t just a “jacket” that protects the skin — it’s also a way to enhance each breed’s unique beauty. But no matter the breed or its traits, having a healthy coat that doesn’t shed too much and stays smooth is something every owner wants for their dog. Today, BTM PET SHOP will walk you through foods that help give your dog a truly healthy, beautiful coat.
1. Coconut oil:
Not only is it one of the best natural moisturizers, coconut oil also gives your dog a soft, glossy coat when absorbed in the right amount.
Adding coconut oil to your dog’s diet also helps the body fight inflammation, supports healthier gut function, keeps skin free of irritation, and helps the coat stay smooth while reducing shedding.
Dosage: about 1 teaspoon a day for every 5kg of body weight.
2. Fish:
Fish is a food that gets overlooked quite often in dog diets. Fish is rich in protein and fish oil, supporting healthy eyes and a beautiful coat.
Dog owners often “assume” their dog “hates” fish, so they skip this excellent food entirely. If your dog isn’t used to it right away, mix a little fish into its regular daily meal so it can get a taste and gradually adapt to the new food.
3. Protein:
Protein provides “indirect” support for a healthy coat. Protein-rich foods include beef, eggs, saltwater fish, chicken, and more.
Protein is the key to virtually every function in the body. To build healthy cells and transport nutrients smoothly to the skin and coat, you should make sure your dog gets a well-balanced, complete diet.
4. Chia seeds:
Chia seeds are a rich source of vitamin B, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, protein, and zinc, and they’re also packed with antioxidants. Chia seeds contain a plant-based form of Omega-3 and are gluten-free. These seeds nourish skin from the inside out, since their high Omega-3 content helps fight chronic skin inflammation.
5. Oats:
Oats are a healthy grain, low in starch and rich in minerals — especially potassium and phosphorus. They also contain calcium, magnesium, vitamin B, and iron, supporting healthy skin and coat.
