3 THINGS YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE GETTING AN ALASKAN MALAMUTE IN VIETNAM
You see the Alaska breed — big, beautiful, thick-furred, super “cool,” right? But keeping an Alaska in Vietnam isn’t that simple. Before you bring one home, read these 3 things carefully — let me explain quickly so you get it.
Thing 1: Alaska dogs overheat easily 🌡️
An Alaska’s coat is long, thick, and traps heat very well — but Vietnam’s weather is hot and humid year-round. That’s why you need to keep their living space well-ventilated and cool, limit their time outside during intense sun, and use air conditioning or a fan when needed.
Warning signs to watch for: rapid breathing, lying flat and unable to get up, a tongue turning bluish-purple, or extreme fatigue. If this happens, cool them down immediately and get them to a vet if they don’t improve.
Thing 2: Alaska dogs need daily exercise
This isn’t a breed suited to being cooped up in a small space for long periods. Alaskas have tons of energy and love to run and explore. Take them for a walk, some light exercise, and playtime every day to help them burn off energy.
If they’re cooped up for too long, they can easily start destroying things, chewing on objects, digging, or becoming hard to control.
Thing 3: Watch their bones/joints and vaccination schedule
Alaska is a large breed with a fast-growing skeleton, which makes proper nutrition especially important while they’re young. Keep an eye on their gait, paws, joints, and weight. Don’t overfeed them starchy food or let them gain weight too quickly, since that puts extra strain on the bones and joints.
Also make sure to keep up with full vaccinations, deworm on schedule, and get regular health checkups. 🐾
